Creekside Wresting is in it’s second year of turnaround under head coach, Darrell Howard. After a strong showing in the regular season, the team recently competed in the Region 5-6A tournament. Coach Howard noted that Creekside is in one of the strongest region’s in the state, which includes perennial power and defending state champion Alexander HS. Yet, he was confident that our athletes could qualify for sectionals. Senior Ian Brundidge and Junior Treveonta Diggs were able to do just that, with a fourth place and third place finish respectively.
Ian has been a leader in the program since his freshman year, often recruiting new wrestlers to give the sport a try. He has fought through injury in his career to get to this point in his most successful season. Likewise, Treveonta is on the brink of a state tournament berth. He is in his second year on the team, wrestling in one of 5-6A’s toughest weight classes at 220lb. In true T.R.I.B.E. fashion, Treveonta acknowledged that his best match was actually a loss to the region champion that came down to the wire. That performance showed that he could compete with the best.
We wish them well as they participate in the sectional wrestling tournament at Alexander HS, Feb 2-3. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state wrestling tournament at the Macon Coliseum.
